Guidance for Potential Governors of the Landau Forte Academy Tamworth

The Overall Aim of School Governors is to:

Help to raise the standards of pupil achievement and plan the academy's future direction.

The main responsibilities are to:

  • Promoting high standards of education and achievement for students of all abilities
  • Setting the school’s aims and values
  • Provide strategic management
  • Ensure accountability to the Landau Forte Charitable Trust
  • Planning the school’s long-term future
  • Appointing senior staff including the Head Teacher
  • Budgetary allocation and control
  • makes sure the school provides for all its pupils, including those with special needs
  • Ensure the academy works towards the standard of ‘Outstanding’ as defined by OFSTED
  • Act as a critical friend to the academy by providing support and challenge


However, the day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the Principal.

A School Governor must:

  • Have a strong desire to make a difference to the lives of children
  • Be willing to challenge assumptions
  • Bring an external perspective to the academy
  • Be willing to undergo a CRB check

  • Decision Making


The governors will meet 6 times in 2010 / 11, 4 times in subsequent years.
There will be 2 sub-committees which will meet between the governors meetings.
